A poem about Reba (I WROTE) Empty A poem about Reba (I WROTE)

Post by misty blue Wed Sep 24, 2008 11:14 pm

Back in Oklahoma, back in the day
lived a little girl, who loved to run and play
she lived on a cattle ranch, there was so much to do
so as she got older, she would help out too.

Her daddy was a steer roper, rodeoing was his life
her mama had a teaching degree, and was proud to be his wife
she has two sisters and a brother that's true
there wasn't a whole lot these kids couldn't do.

She wanted to do everything her daddy had done
so she tried out the rodeo, just for fun
she learned how to rope and she learned how to ride
with the help of her daddy by her side.

Rodeoing wasn't the only thing she could do
her beautiful voice proved she could sing too
her brother and sisters could sing just as good
they practiced and practiced as much as they could.

The long trips to the rodeo, and home on the ranch
they would practice whenever they got the chance
they sang sometimes till the sun went down
they became the singing McEntires in their Oklahoma town.

After she finished high school, college is where she wanted to be
she wanted to be like her mama, and get a teaching degree
while she was still in college, she still managed to sing
she learned alot about music, along with other things.

In the summer of 1974, she was going to go
to Oklahoma City for the national rodeo
her daddy told her she should get a job, to try something new
but she didn't know deep down inside what she wanted to do.

Her daddy said the National Anthem was something she could try
she was nervous when she sang, she thought she was going to cry
but as the time went on, she was singing it more and more
two years later she found herself singing from the arena floor.

Singing the National Anthem for the people in the stands
she was discovered by a talented young man
his name was Red Stegall, and the voice that he heard
he thought to himself was so sweet and so pure.

Little did she know that's all it would take
this is what she needed, this was her big break
her mama wanted to know, if he could take her siblings too
all Red could say was, he would see what he could do.

He could only sign one, and he choose it to be her
he thought she was different, than what he had heard
she had to go to Nashville, to make a demo tape
then she returned home, where she would have to wait.

The deal had taken longer than she thought it would
but Red was doing all that he possibly could
out of all of the places, that Red had tried
Phonogram records said they would give her a try.

She thought at first that it was so wrong
because she was a part of the singing McEntires for so long
but her mama had told her this is what she needed to do
because this was definately a dream come true.

Her brother and sisters said they would be fine
they would get their chance it was just a matter of time
it wasn't long after I guess you could say
that her brother and sisters went their own way.

It was through rodeoing that she met the first love of her life
his name was Charlie Battles, she soon became his wife
early in their marriage, they would go and do their own thing
he would go to the rodeo, and she would go and sing.

The arrangement was hard, she missed him so much
but when they weren't together, they still kept in touch
she was still very young, and quite immature
she depended on Charlie that was for sure.

Her career was off to a very slow start
but she didn't give up, which was really smart
she got rejected and sent away
but she kept on trying everyday.

Years later it finally happened, her dream would come true
this is what she had been waiting for, her whole life through
she finally made it, she was on the charts
she had a good feeling, deep down in her heart.

As the years went on she was singing more and more
her music career was starting to soar
the rodeo however was slowing down
now, Charlie wanted to hang around.

He wasn't around much to know about her career
but because he wasn't rodeoing, he wanted to be near
he wanted to tell her what she should do
but Charlie however didn't have a clue.

He tried to run things like he thought they should be done
it was starting to upset her, and she wasn't having fun
she tried to tell him, he needed to go home
she thought what they needed was some time alone.

She didn't depend on Charlie as much as she had
and that would make Charlie really mad
she was growing up, and wanted to do things her own way
that was their problem, I guess you could say.

In 1980, she was putting together another band
when a guy named Gary recommended a fine young man
his name was Narvel Blackstock, which nobody had known
but he had alot of talent which he had shown.

He was selling insurance and doing music on the side
but being in her band he thought, would change his life
so he quit his job, and came to work for her
this is what he wanted, he knew it for sure.

Whan the band got started, things were a little tough
and she thought that Narvel had, had enough
but he did come back the very next day
he liked it so much, that he wanted to stay.

Years later, way on down the road
her problems with Charlie started to unfold
everytime they would talk it ended in a fight
she knew that it wasn't working, it just wasn't right.

She was more stable in her career by now
she needed to get out, but she didn't know how
Narvel was her manager, and she had her own band
she was now certain it was time to make a stand.

So in 1987, she went downtown
it was clear to see she wasn't fooling around
she filed for divorce which was something new
but she new in her heart, it was the right thing to do.

When Charlie found out he wanted all that she had
she could see that this divorce was going to be bad
she offered the house, just to be fair
but Charlie wanted more, so it didn't stop there.

He wanted some assets, that she had made through the years
it was obvious he was benefiting from her career
the Oklahoma judge was on his side
there was nothing she could do, no matter how hard she tried.

When the divorce was final, she knew in her heart
this was her chance to make a fresh start
Oklahoma wasn't the place where she wanted to be
so she decided to move to Nashville, Tennesee.

Narvel stood behind her to help her make it through
little did she know he was going through it too
he had three children, and Lisa was his wife
they were going through some problems, in both of their lives.

Narvel tried real hard as hard as he could
to save his marriage like he thought he should
but the problems were there, there was nothing he could do
so in Oct of 1987, he got divorced too.

The divorce was hard, and took a toll on them both
it was only natural that they became close
she thought that Narvel was a wonderful man
and he was always there to hold her hand.

Times were tough but they had to move on
they couldn't look back those times were gone
she had to focus on her music career
after all it was her music, that brought her here.

As the days went on, she did all that she could
her career was picking up, liked she hoped it would
she was winning awards for all that she's done
some of her songs became number one.

She was thankful to Narvel for being by her side
that her feelings grew strong towards that wonderful guy
they grew closer and closer as time went on
they knew in their hearts that this wasn't wrong.

The proposal came around Christmas time
and they got married on June 3rd 1989
it was on the river on a catamaran
that she said I do to that wonderful man.

During this time she got another shot
she was starring in a movie, believe it or not
that was something she always wanted to do
it was another dream of hers that had come true.

Another dream she also had
was she wanted a baby really bad
Charlie was against it, he made that perfectly clear
he thought that having a child would ruin her career.

But looking back on what he had done
she was real glad that she didn't have one
but it was time, she waited so long
that the urge for a baby was really strong.

In 1990 she was overwhelmed with joy
when she gave birth to a little baby boy
Feb 23rd was the glorious day
her son Shelby was born in this world to stay.

Everything was great, she had it all
until one night she got a call
one of her planes hit a mountain side
and eight of her band members unfortunantly died.

Nine days later she was scheduled to perform
but she was weak and her heart was torn
something had told her, to keep moving on
she did it for them, she sang her song.

She wanted to get her mind off that terrible crash
so when she was offered a movie role, she moved fast
she was going to be in the Gambler, with Kenny her friend
she loved doing this movie, from beginning to end.

The movie led to alot of different ones
she had done ten movies by the time she was done
she enjoyed every minute, she was having a blast
her life was so much different, then it was in the past.

She did two musicals, at Carnegie Hall
she is quite a women, she can do it all
in 2001, there was no way she could go wrong
when she chose to do a half hour sitcom.

After six years the show had come to an end
she'll never regret it, she made alot of good friends
whatever she does, whatever she tries
she gives one hundred percent from deep down inside.

There is no doubt she's definitely made it to the top
with all she's done she still wont stop
she keeps going strong more and more each day
she is definitely one lady who is here to stay.

She appreciates everyone's gentle touch
her family, her friends, she loves them so much
there was so many things that she went through
if it wasn't for them what would she do.

It makes her feel good, when she can give back
to those less fortunate than what they should have
she believes in charity, with all of her heart
so she always makes sure, she does her patr.

There's one more thing that she wanted to try
she has her own clothing line for people to buy
there's not a whole lot that she hasn't done
and that's why she has become number one.

She owes her career to the Lord so tall
He's given her the voice that started it all
there is no doubt that she is a true country diva
this beautiful person is none other than REBA. Very Happy Very Happy

I have to agree that was a perfect poem... If it is alright with you ~ I'd like to use that for my honor page on Reba in my next book~ i would put you down for the author of these words of course, but at least it would be out there and she is getting the book so you would know sooner or later she will ready it personally~ Hugs! if not that is alright i already have her pages done up and did my radio show honor of her but I'd like to either replace it or add on to what i have~ haven't decided yet, I just finished reading the poem. I am VERY proud of you for putting it together! A TRUE poet can do those long poems!!! Perhaps you should be writing your own book of poems?!? Maybe YOU will be famous too! if you can find 25 people you love THIS much to write a poem about their LIFE! then you have your book! do it for 25 people you REALLY LOVE and call it "Celebrity Life's" it should sell great and i'll have you on my radio show to promote it!

Brightest Blessings,
